Doorstops Just Got Really Cool

I know doorstops are generally not that interesting and not useful for everyone, but I found out about these amazing doorstops and had to share! Meet The Wedgies,
family of hand-painted and hand-crafted wooden doorstops designed in Brighton and hand-made in Sri Lanka, taking inspiration from the modern, the retro, the cool, the not-so-cool, the famous, the not-so-famous, stereotypes and more.

There's Carl Lagerfeld, Cher, Mr T, Captain Cod, disco lovers Donna and Brutus, newlyweds Sandra and Charles, Spyros the Greek, hippie Janis, respectable Brits Albert and Victoria, and so many more.

For me, what makes these cool doorstops really special is that they're not churned out in a sweat shop factory by people paid next to nothing, but hand painted by real people in their homes in Sri Lanka as part of an incentive scheme to empower men and women based in rural areas of the country earn a decent wage while living their daily lives. Unpainted doorstops are delivered directly to employees’ houses, along with paints, brushes and tools; once painted and completed, the Wedgies are paid for on collection.

Here's a great video showing the crafts people in Sri Lanka at work.

Which doorstop will you buy?

  1. Love them all, especially the pair of hippies in yellow.
Hmmmm, which room do I need a door stop for....

  2. And the Colombian drug lord in his black Speedos.

  3. I've just seen your post on Wedgies. It's great! Thank you!
